Argument Rough Draft

As you listen to music in your car, while taking a shower, shopping, or when you are out to eat, have you ever thought that it could be beneficial? Studies have shown that music can help with memory, relaxation, and exercise. I work at a nursing home and these three points that music helps with is very important for residents, as some are really confused and in pain. At the nursing home that I work at, we have daily activities for the residents to attend if they would like. A big one is music. We have different people who come in and do a show for the residents. Some performers will sing, some will play the piano, others will do both. We also have kids from school come and perform or choirs will come to perform as well. Studies have proved that music can help with Alzheimer and dementia patients. Music also helps with other memory factors such as depression and also reduces stress. Classical music is found to be one of the best types of music to enhance storage in one's memory. Increasing the release of hormones in the body is an effect of music, which helps with memory. Also, preparing for tests, studies have shown that music can help while studying. Working in a nursing home, I see a lot of Alzheimer's and dementia and music is a common activity that we offer weekly to the residents and it shows a difference, not only in their memory, but in their attitudes. Relaxing is something we all strive for. Music can be relaxing in ways such as helping with pain, sleeping, and muscle tension. Researchers have stated that some music can help slow the progression of Parkinson's. Researchers also state that some types of music can produce dopamine and serotonin, which are imbalanced nuerochemicals that effect Parkinson's Disease. Music also has a positive effect on lowering blood pressure, improving respiration, reducing heart rate and improving cardiac output. Cancer patients have also been known to reduce pain and anxiety and improving their mood and quality of life by music therapy. When it comes to a race, music can help accelerate your speed. Research has said that music can increase endurance by 15 percent. Up beat songs will increase or match your tempo of running strides which will also help someone to run longer. While listening to music during exercise, it can distract one from feeling the burn. This also results in weight loss and a more healthy life style. Although music can be beneficial with memory, relaxation, and exercise, everyone has their own taste in genres. These different genres can effect a person in different ways and can effect each of these beneficial points differently. I strongly believe and I am convinced from researchers that music does help a person in many effective ways. Consider the studies and research that has been and is being done today. Brain Storm

I would like to use the argument Music can help people relax, it can help with their memory, and it can help you exercise more.

Argumentation Blog

I read Blogworld and Its Gravity: The New Amateur Journalists Weigh In. I thought this story was kind of boring actually. The Author listed off a bunch of people I do not know. I am also not a big fan of politics and other argumentations they were making. Matt Welch, the author, said that blogging got more popular after September 11th, which I can see why. It's kind of cool that he gets to blog with people who have been through September 11th, and was there physically and saw what had happened. I'm sure you can feel the intensity of the blogs when you read about people who have seen or was around the actually crash of 9/11 that day. Some of the blogs and bloggers he wrote about in his story seem like they have nothing better to do than argue. I guess I don't understand the point of arguing all day about nothing. Or about something, but it would not change anyways. I think some of the blogs would be interesting to read though, and they might have a really good point of view.

Process Analysis Draft

Our Polish Ambassador Mini Vacation On our way to Milwaukee to see The Polish Ambassador, we made a few stops to waste some time. The first stop was the Tanger Outlet Mall in the Dells. I love going shopping when I'm out of the Onalaska area to see if there is anything different at these malls. Taylor, Josh, and I shopped from store to store until we reached the end of the strip mall. Most of the stores were similar to the stores in Onalaska, but it was worth the stop! As we left the Tanger Outlet, our stomach's were gargling. Denny's is right by the Tanger Outlet Mall so we had to stop, since we do not have a Denny's in the Onalaska/ La Crosse area. The inside of Denny's looked like a Diner from the Elvis Presley era. As we finish our meals, our stomach's feel like they are going to explode. We leave Denny's to head back on the road to our destination. The car ride to Milwaukee seemed to take forever. To pass time we obviously listened to music. We also decided to bring out our childish side and play traveling games, such as I Spy. After we play a few games we decide to stop again for a bathroom break at a local gas station. We got some snacks for the road and something to drink. Once we check out our items, it is back on the road again! After a few hours of traveling busy interstates, we arrive at our hotel in Milwaukee. Our hotel was a simple, cheap hotel. No pool or anything special, just a place to stay for the night. The show is still not for a couple of hours so we decide to check out a little bit of Milwaukee. As we weave between streets in downtown Milwaukee, we pass through Marquette University. The buildings look like an old, historical school, along with most of the buildings in downtown Milwaukee. It is a very neat scene. We try and find a mall on our smartphones. We were successfull and found one about 15 minutes away from the downtown area. As the GPS leads us in the right direction, we come across a Sonic! I don't eat fast food very often, but we were on a one day vacation, and I haven't seen a Sonic since I was in Kansas. My friends also have been waiting for the day to enjoy Sonic for the first time. We pull up to a drive in similar to Rudy's In La Crosse. After examining the menu, Josh, the driver, pressed a button to order our food from his car. A few minutes after we order our food, the girls bring out a tray of food as they balance on rollerskates, also known as car hops. For not having Sonic in a long time, and for Josh and Taylor's first time there, we really enjoyed our fast food. After our meal was finished and we were stuffed to the brim, we head back to the busy and crazy streets of Milwaukee. As we get further out of downtown, the buildings and houses are a little more rusty and old and as some people would call it, the "trashy" part of town. There was alot of small strip malls and little stores, nothing like clothes shopping or anything, just stores for necessities mostly. As we get further away from downtown Milwaukee, it almost feels as if we are going into another city. The GPS instructed us to go a direction that seemed unfamiliar and unrealistic as we enter a part of Milwaukee that has nice houses and a great community. Little did we know, it was the right direction. As we arrive at our destination, as the GPS would say, we encounter a big, two story mall. Just like at the Tanger Outlet Mall, we start at one end, except this time we started and one floor and came back on the other. This mall was a lot more fun than the Tanger Outlet Mall. There were more stores and a few new ones that we did not have at the Valley View Mall in Onalaska. This mall was so cool that the mall cops got to ride around on segways! I was totally jealous! Escalators were found in numerous spots throughout the mall along with a couple elevators. After we explored the two floors and went to all the stores we wanted to, we decided we should probably head back to the hotel and meet our friends, Nate, Jared, Travis, and Derek. Leaving the Milwaukee mall, we once again pass by sonic, and the marquette university and end up back at the hotel. Our other four friends had just gotten there, so we made it in perfect time. Now it was time to get the party started!

Compare and Contrast

Even though I have been to many concerts in many different places, my favorite is the Rave in Milwaukee. I have seen a number of different shows or music artists here. There is another venue in Milwaukee, not very far from the Rave, called the Miramar. I have seen one show at the Miramar, and it was nothing like experiencing the Rave. The Rave is a very popular place and has been around many years. The first show I have ever been to was at the Rave and it blew my mind, with bright, colorful light, and people all around dancing and not having a care in the world! There was an area where the artists sold their belongings, such as clothes, cd's, posters, and more. There was a balcony that surrounded the area where the stage was. That was the VIP section. The general admission section, which was the floor infront of the stage, which is where I was, dancing and singing with everyone, was very big and got crowded fast, even though it's bigger than the Miramar. Behind where everyone was dancing on the floor, was a concession stand where people got their beverages and whatever else they need. You wouldn't believe how much a water cost at these shows. Oh well, it is a necessity. This venue is awesome and I will go back many more times. I was so dissapointed with the Miramar when I first walked in. It wasn't anything like the Rave. It was a smaller venue and can probably hold half of the people that the Rave can, but don't quote me on that. As you walk in through the front door, there is a crowd of people standing around mingling or looking at the artists clothing and other nic-nacs, waiting for the show to start. As the first artist came on, a lot of people made their way to the stage. The stage was up front and around the outside of the small area was seats for people, but not very many. In the middle of the seats was the floor where people could stand to watch the show and get their groove on. It wasn't till I started drinking a few and hearing the artists perform until I didn't care about the venue anymore...it was about the show!

Descriptive

New Year’s Eve is one of the most exciting holidays for me. About 3 years ago, I got to see Skrillex perform at the Rave in Milwaukee on New Year’s Eve. Skrillex is a show I will never forget. The drive up to Milwaukee seemed like it took forever! The butterflies were tickling my stomach as the excitement of my favorite holiday and Skrillex performing was getting closer and closer. Listening to Skrillex most of the way on our trip to Milwaukee, my friends and I would dance and sing in the car to make the time pass. Finally, we made it to Milwaukee. Not quite time for the show, we had a few hours to have a couple drinks and get ready for the night. The smell of hairspray fills the room as us girls curl our hair. Also, the smell of sour whisky is coming from the other side of the hotel room. We are finally ready to head over to the show. As we walk downstairs, there was a wedding going on. A New Year’s wedding; how awesome is that? The hotel we stayed was very luxurious, so it was kind of awkward walking into the main lobby wearing neon colored outfits and sparkly, colorful makeup for the show. In the main area of the hotel stands a 15 foot Christmas tree decorated with elegant ornaments and gold Christmas lights. As we stood in the main lobby waiting for the cab, we stared at that Christmas tree like we had never seen one before. The cab arrives and asks us where we are headed. We responded the show at the Rave. Milwaukee is a very busy city. The cab driver started driving towards our venue. We had to take two cabs, due to the amount of people in our group. The cab drivers started joking around and racing. As we sit awkwardly and silently in our seats, it feels like we are on a rollercoaster. The cab driver goes fast over a small hill and I swear we flew like Dumbo. A calming sensation goes through our body as we arrive to the Rave.

Illustrative

Bassnectar is an amazing electronic DJ. He is one of my favorite artists. My friends and I drove to Madison to see Bassnectar play one night. As we arrive to Madison we go up 6 floors on the elevator. Our room was a standard hotel room, with two full sized beds and a bathroom behind the front door of your hotel room. As you look outside of our room, across the way was our venue, at the ampitheatre. It was perfect walking distance so we did not have to spend the extra money for a taxi. As we start to get ready for the concert, we start taking a couple shots to get us started and feeling good since drinks are extremely expensive at concerts and festivals. The girls are putting colorful, crazy make-up on eachother. The boys even get pretty for the show. When we are finished getting ready, we have to take pictures for good memories. We enter the ampitheatre listening to artists perform, getting pumped up for Bassnectar. We buy some more drinks as we sit there and wait for the big show to come on. At this time, we are also trying to find a good spot to see the show. We get close enough to where we can see, but not too close that it is going to be super crowded with sweaty bodies and people pushing to get closer. As the butterflies go through our stomach's it is getting closer to the time of Bassnectar to start, and BOOM! He enters the stage with bright and colored lights and amazing visuals on the screen. And from there, we watch and listen to an amazing show.

Summerset!

“One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain.” This is a quote I live by that Bob Marley once said. Music is the calming of the calming of the soul. I listen to music any chance I get; at home, in the car, showering, relaxing. Another thing I enjoy doing with music is going to music festivals and concerts! I have been to quite a few. The most recent one I went to was Summerset Music Festival in Sommerset, Wisconsin. Not only is there a bunch of artists that play throughout the day and night, but there is other activities. Some other activities we did were camping, going to the shops that were around the festival, different food stand, checking out other peoples campsites and meeting new people. It was a great second experience for me ( I also went to Summerset last year). I went with 5 of my friends from high school, who have never been to a music festival before. They had a great experience as well and have never seen anything like it! Some of my favorite artists I saw at Summerset were Adventure Club, Zed, and Krewella. We would dress up in bright, neon colors. Sometimes we even put body paint on ourselves. You see any crazy thing that you could imagine at summerset. People dress in all sorts of different clothing and no one cares what you look like. It’s amazing. It is like a big Halloween party except not on Halloween. It was a wonderful three day vacation and I will definitely be going again next year!
